A dramatic start to U 18 SAFF Championship opening match between India and Bangladesh in 7 goals thriller Bangladesh edging India by one goal 4-3.
Bangladeshi U 18 created history after 3 goals down in first half to beat India 4-3 in second Half. It was first time in the history of Bangladesh football with epic come back to defeat the tournaments favorites India.
Up until the half time it was the Men in Blues that led the match with 3 while The Bengal Tigers at 0. It appeared as if Team India had it done, taken all the glory out of the match. The team looked tensed and it appeared that the team was under a lot of pressure.
It was after halftime that the Tigers upped their game and came to prove who the real king was. Mr. Md Rahmat Mia in Jersey 03 brought the glory and the drive to the team and the country with a goal at 60 minutes. The goals then seemed to rain. With this started a torrent of goals from the Tigers up until to the 89th minute and walked home with all the glory.
“We had to change our strategy in the second half and we depended more on our long ball”, Said Bangladesh Head Coach Mahabub.
According to Indian Head Coach Floyd Pinto “our side couldn’t deal with the set piece”. “Bangladesh was brilliant on set piece and it will be difficult for rest of the teams in the tournament”.
India was on the way to a dream start in the tournament. Indian players couldn’t keep up the same tempo of first half in the second half. The players looked tired and the midfielder couldn’t keep the ball as the Bangladeshi players came rejuvenated and keep pressing the Indian half with dangerous long balls.
“We are to blame ourselves and we will come back stronger,” said the Indian Head Coach. Meanwhile two Indian key players captain Panwar and singh was seriously injured and had to rush to hospital.
