Another historic win for Bhutan as they defeated the defending champion Nepal in SAFF U 18 championship in changlimithang stadium today.
Nepal being the favorites to win the game started with attacking at Bhutan’s half, first 5 minutes and they created several scoring chance. It was shaky start from the dragon boys but eventually they manage to claim their nerves and they also created two scoring chance in first 15 minutes.
“We had many scoring chances but we couldn’t manage to utilize our chance and score,” said Nepal Head Coach Chiring Lopsang.
Nepal had 80% of the ball possession in both half and they controlled the game from very first whistle, it was the resilient defending from the Bhutanese defender that kept the game for Bhutan. Bhutan captain Chimi stood as wall as the Nepal strikers kept firing from long distance.
“Our boys played well and our home fans supported us,” said Bhutan Head Coach Song Jun Lee. It is a dream start and we still have long way to go in this tournament. “Every team has chance to win and I still consider that we are underdogs,” he added.
Orgyen Wangchuk Tshering the most experienced guy in the squad manage to slot in the penalty in 85th minutes after defender Asim Bhusal hand ball inside the penalty area. It was the swift feet from Orgyen where is forced the defender to slide it touched the hand of the defender.
Man of the match Orgyen said that it was a very difficult match and we played really well especially our defending was brilliant,” “We had to believe in ourselves and focus more”. He added that Nepal is very strong and they will come stronger in next games.
It is a dream start for Bhutan in any format of the tournament and two win in the row is yet another milestone for Bhutan. They have never won two consecutive matches.
Bhutan will face India and it will be yet another difficult game for Bhutan.
