Bhutan off to flyer


Bhutan upsets Maldives in the second match of the SAFF U 18 Championship in Thimphu; lone goal from Orgyen Wangchuk Tshering in 52nd minutes was enough to seal a maiden win for Bhutan.

It was slow starts from both the teams and Maldives created more scoring chance than Bhutan in the first half but the steady defensive work from Bhutanese defender averted many scoring chance for Maldives.

At start of the second half red snapper looked more tired and Bhutan really took advantage from the flank and manages to cross many good deliver in the box.  As the game went on Dragon boys  was clearly exhausted and player  fell down with cramps which shows Bhutan really needs to work on their fitness if they have any chance to win this tournament.

Earlier in the pre match press conference Maldives head coach Husan stated that 70% of his team comprises of new players playing away from home with limited training period and lack of match experience.

It was visible from the game that both the team lack matches composure   and experience.

“It was our first game and it was tough playing condition especially the weather for our boys,” said Maldives Head coach Husan. We will train harder for our next game against Bangladesh. I know it won’t be easy game but we need to be positive and look forward.  He mentioned that Bhutan as set game plan and they had most of the ball possession in the second half.

Goal scorer Orgyen had bag of experience with senior team and his experience came handy as he scored the first goal for Bhutan. “Orgyen is very experienced and we had to depend on him to perform,” said Bhutan Head coach Song Jun Lee. He added that Bhutan needs to improve on the team combination and also fitness. “Our next games will be very tough so we have to prepare mentally,”

“We have great support from our home crowds and we hope they will keep supporting us”, Said lee.

Bhutan will face the defending champion of previous edition U 19 SAFF Nepal on Wednesday.
