For the first time in Bhutan, the Bhutan Football Federation kick-started its Esports FIFA 2020 Tournament at Drukyul Game Studio, Thimphu on December 5th, 2020. The inauguration of the tournament was graced by the General Secretary of BFF, Mr. Ugyen Wangchhuk whereby a match was played between the G.S and Mr. Thinley (CEO of Nivia). Strict covid 19 protocols were followed at the time of the match whereby everyone had to wear a mask at all times, social distance maintained, and non-participants were not allowed entry.
The tournament is divided into two groups- above 12 tournaments and under 12 tournaments.
A total of 98 participants registered for the above 12 tournaments whereby only 56 turned up. The youngest player was aged 14 with the oldest player being 39. The mean age group was 23.
The under 12 tournaments will be played on December 12th, 2020 and the finals will be on December 13th, 2020. The winner (above 12) will receiver Nu. 100,000 followed by Nu. 50.000 as second prize and Nu. 20,000 as the third prize. The winners will form the first Esports FIFA National Team and represent Bhutan in future Esports tournaments held nationally and globally.
