A last minute blunder from Gelephu defender keeps Gelephu FC from rising up the point table as they end the match in a 1-1 draw against the away team Paro Rinpung FC today at Changlingmithang.
Gelephu FC went ahead early at 16 minutes through their midfielder Ugyen Thinley by heading in the stunning free kick from the teams top scorer Ngawang Namgyel Tamang. Paro Rinpung went in search of an equalizer and pressure built against the hosts. Late in the starting half, Rinpung forward Pemba Tshering almost got the crucial leveler but his near-post attempt was exceptionally refused by Gelephu goalie Nim Dorji. Having squandered all the glorious chances, the first half ended in 1-0 lead of Gelephu FC.
Even in the second half, home team started on the front foot almost doubling their lead just a minute after the restart by the opening scorer Ugyen Thinley but was cleared by Rinpung defense. Just like their assistant coach Mindu mentioned in the post match press conference, the Gelephu boys got a little too comfortable with the 1-0 lead and opted for a sat back game leading to extensive pressure from the visitors. In the 86th minute, a fortuitous own goal by GFC defender Sangay Tashi made them settle for a point each by the game time.
Had Gelephu FC maintained their lead till the full time, they would have surpassed Paro Rinpung FC on the point table today.
For the next match we will have Transport United FC vs Thimphu City FC on Saturday at Changlimithang.
