Nepal humbles Maldives


Nepal register’s first win of the SAFF U 18 championship today against Maldives at Changlimithang stadium 2-0.
Maldives are out of the championship with three straight losing streaks and they will face India in their last match.
Nepal took lead in 7th minute in the first half goal courtesy of Nepali defender Roman Limbu after they tried a long diagonal pass from his own half. The Maldivian defender Ishaq Rasheed went for the head clearance but at last minutes he left it for goal keeper and in between creating confusion which lead to the goal as the goal keeper thought his defender cleared the ball. It was a gift for the Nepali team and the score line remain same throughout the first half despite full pressure from Nepal to double its lead.

Nepal dominated the game as expected as the Maldivian forwards did not have any single attempt to goal in the first half.

“Our players was really tired due to the continue games compared to Nepal,” said Head Coach of Maldives Abdul Ghanii. He said that the fixture did not favor Maldives and his defender really tried and they did not get enough time for recovery.

Nepal scored second goal on 57th minutes of the second half when the beautifully cured cross was headed by Rajin Subba giving Nepal a two goal cushion. At the dying minutes of the game Nepal was awarded a penalty but Abhishek Rijal struck the bar and the ball was cleared for safety.

“We wanted to score more goals and he missed lots of goal scoring opportunity” said Nepali Head Coach Chiring Lopsang. He added that Nepal has been lacking in scoring more goals but it is a good win and we want to continue the game momentum in the next game.

Nepal will face Bangladesh in their next match and it will be crucial game for both the teams.
