An overwhelming day for Gelephu FC as they acquire the much awaited first victory of BoB Bhutan Premier League today at Changlimithang humbling Tensung FC 0:2. Even if they stay on the bottom despite todays win, Gelephu is no more a team with no wins.
The team on the bottom of the table seemed to have had a very serious training as they went ahead early through their striker Ngawang Namgyel Tamang at 15 minutes on the clock. Ngawang Namgyel holds the record of scoring the fastest goal of the league which left their opponent for the day High Quality United FC stunned that day.
Pace of the game sure picked up after the opening goal as the strong army team hurried their way in search of an equalizer. During stoppage time before the break, Gelephu goalie Nim Dorji faced continuous pressure but did a great job guarding his post ending the first half in 1-0 led of GFC.
After the interval, Ngawang Namgyel completed his brace at 67 minutes, converting the beautiful cross from his mate Yeshi Norbu. Tensung’s newly substituted Thinley Wangdi hit the back of the net in the 74th minute but was ruled out for offside having to end the game without even being able to save a nil.
“In the first half they totally lost their focus. Yesterday I told them none of the team is easy. I think they took it very lightly as Gelephu FC has never won” said Tensung Boss Namgay Tshering but this attitude of his boys led to them losing against seemingly the weakest team of the season.
The Gelephu gaffer Mindu said that the 3 crucial points they grabbed today are for their supporters and that he is very proud of his boys.
For the next match we will have Transport United FC vs Gomo FC at Changlimithang.
