The Kuenphen-KELME BHUTAN Women’s National Championship 2020-2021 initiated by Bhutan Football Federation kicked off on December 16th in UA ground in Punakha. The opening ceremony was graced by the President of Women’s Football, Zimbiri. Ashi Zimibiri presented a token of appreciation to the sponsors of the league, Mr. Thukten Lhendup founder of Kuenphen Motors and Kelme during the ceremony.
Similar to the previous leagues conducted this year, strict covid 19 protocols of MoH were followed. All guests and officials had to wear face masks at all times, maintain social distance, and wash their hands before entry. Desuups were also deployed in all entry points following strict SoPs as well. No spectators were allowed on the premises during the match.
The opening match was played between Ugyen Academy Women Football Club VS. Sunrise Women Football Club with scores 0-0. During the match, both teams showed determination and skills, showing an improved version of themselves compared to the previous year. Sunita Mongar, goalkeeper of Sunrise WFC fiercely blocked all the goal attempts made by UA WFC. The two teams did not give up, trying their best to win their first goal for their team till the very last second. Unfortunately, no goals were scored in the entirety of the match.
UA WFC will be playing their next match on 19th December against Mongar WFC and Sunrise WFC will be playing against Rising Stars WFC (Samdrup Jongkhar).
